NUcarpool ("NUcarpool," "we," "us," or "our") provides a website and related services (the "Service") that help students coordinate shared rides — for example, finding Uber ride mates instead of traveling alone.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Service.

When you register, post a ride, join a ride, or contact us, you may provide:

• Account information: email address and authentication details needed to access the Service.
• Ride information you post: date/time, direction (e.g., to/from airport), pickup area, destination, seat availability, notes, and any other content you include in a ride post.
• Ride participation information: information indicating that you joined a specific ride.
• Optional contact details for coordination: phone number or other contact method only if you choose to share it.
• Support communications: messages you send us (feedback, bug reports, questions).

When you use the Service, we may collect basic log and usage information: IP address, device and browser type, pages/actions within the Service, and timestamps. We use this primarily for security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting.

We use information to:

• Provide and operate the Service (create accounts, allow users to post and join rides, and display ride availability).
• Enable ride coordination between users in the same ride.
• Maintain safety and integrity (prevent spam, abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access).
• Troubleshoot and improve the Service (fix bugs, improve reliability, and maintain performance).
• Communicate with you (respond to support requests and send essential service or security notices).

We design the Service so that information is shared in a limited way:

• Ride posts are visible to authenticated (logged-in) users so students can find rides.
• Participant-only information (such as joiner lists and any optional contact details used for coordination) is restricted to users who have joined that ride, where applicable.

• Supabase supports our database and authentication.
• Our hosting and infrastructure providers process requests and logs needed to deliver the Service reliably.

These providers process information on our behalf to provide the Service.

We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to comply with applicable law or legal process, enforce our terms or investigate potential violations, or protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or the Service.

If NUcarpool is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain security and prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes and enforce agreements.

Ride posts and participation information may remain available until you delete them (if the Service provides deletion controls) or your account is removed, subject to limited retention for security, legal, or operational purposes.

The Service uses session mechanisms to keep you logged in and secure your account. This may involve cookies and/or browser local storage (depending on device and configuration) that store authentication tokens or session identifiers.

These technologies are used for essential functionality (authentication, security, and session persistence). If you disable cookies or storage in your browser, parts of the Service such as staying logged in may not work properly.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information, including using established third-party infrastructure for authentication and database security.

The Service is intended for college students and is not directed to children under 13. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to request:

• Access to personal information we hold about you.
• Correction of inaccurate information.
• Deletion of your information.

The Service may include links to third-party services (for example, Uber). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties, and you should review their policies separately.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last Updated" date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice within the Service.

NUCarpool uses automated SMS to notify matched riders of each other's contact information so they can coordinate shared rides. SMS messages are sent only to users who have provided a phone number and opted in to receive SMS during account registration or when submitting a ride request.

You opt in to receive SMS from NUCarpool by:

• Checking the consent box when creating your account, which states: "I agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, and I opt in to receive SMS from NUCarpool about my ride."
• Providing your phone number when submitting a ride request.

Your opt-in is recorded at the time of account creation. You will not receive SMS from NUCarpool if you have not completed the opt-in.

Message frequency varies. You will typically receive SMS only when you are matched with another rider. You may receive one or more messages per ride request depending on match activity.

You may opt out of SMS at any time by replying STOP to any message from NUCarpool. After opting out, you will receive one confirmation message and no further SMS from us. To resume SMS, you must re-submit a ride request and re-consent. You may also contact us at support@nucarpool.com to request removal.
